The construction of a new bridge was started to ease the traffic congestion on the Vashi Bridge. All the work on the Vashi side of the new bridge being constructed on the Vashi creek bridge on the Sion Panvel route has been completed. The flyover will be opened for traffic in August this year. This will bring great relief to the motorists traveling over the Vashi Khadi bridge and the problem of traffic congestion will be solved.

There is a six-tier bridge over the Vashi creek connecting Mankhurd to Navi Mumbai on the Sion Panvel route. This  bridge was opened to traffic in 1994. But, due to the increase in traffic on this bridge in the last few years, the bridge became inadequate and the passengers often had to bear the problem of traffic jams. To solve this traffic jam, Maharashtra State Road Development Board (MSRDC) is constructing 2 more parallel bridges of three lanes each on either side of this bridge. The work of the bridge to be constructed from Mankhurd to Vashi has been completed.

MSRDC Managing Director Dr. Anil Kumar Gaikwad said, “The work of the new Vashi Creek bridge from Mumbai to Pune is 100 percent complete. The finishing work of this bridge will be completed and it will be opened for traffic in August,” he informed. Meanwhile, Rs 559 crore has been spent on this project. Also, the length of this bridge will be 1837 meters. So, 10 toll booths will be erected on both sides of this bridge.
